Middle school students hope to 'be' best spellers [Cockeysville]
Sara Gray, seventh-grader, and Ben Kanzanzides, sixth-grader, will represent Cockeysville Middle School at the 8th annual Baltimore Spelling Bee. The Bee is sponsored by Learn It Systems in partnership with the Josephine B. Scheffenacker Trust. The event will be held in mid-March. Sara and Ben came in first and second, respectively, out of a field of 17 Cockeysville Middle School students. The CMS spelling Bee started with a spelling bee club meeting on Fridays after school and culminates with the school's bee on Feb. 4. The school's team is sponsored by the Cockeysville Middle School Parent Teacher Association. Sarah and Ben will be competing with students from 30 other Baltimore city and county public, private and parochial schools. Winners of the Baltimore Bee earn a chance to represent Baltimore at the Scripps National Spelling Bee held in Washington, D.C. in May.
