Veteran officer identified in Cockeysville shooting

Baltimore County police have identified the police officer who shot a man suspected of attacking him as he responded to a domestic dispute at a Cockeysville apartment complex last week.

Police said Officer Schupple, a 15-year veteran, shot a 37-year-old man who was fighting with his parents in an apartment in 300 block of Wellingborough Way, police said.

Baltimore County does not provide officers' first names because of a police union agreement. Schupple has not been involved in any prior police involved shootings, a spokeswoman said.

Police have not yet identified the 37-year-old, who was taken to the hospital for his injuries. Police did not provide an update on the man's condition.

Schupple responded Jan. 30 to the second-floor apartment, where police said the man was assaulting his elderly 72-year-old stepfather and 69-year-old mother. When the officer attempted to intervene, the man attacked him multiple times, causing Schupple to retreat to the hallway and fire several rounds.
