Towson and Catonsville rank among the top 10 when it comes to best places in Maryland for young families, according to a new ranking by NerdWallet.com, a Baltimore County press release stated Thursday.

The online company, a personal finance and credit card comparison website, looked at academic performance of public schools, home affordability, and income growth over the past decade.

Also named in the rankings released two days ago were Eldersburg, Ellicott City, Odenton, Severna Park, Annapolis, Frederick, Olney and Rockville.

"We're proud that Towson and Catonsville are being recognized for their success as great places for young families to call home," Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz said in the press release.

Nancy Hafford, executive director of the Towson Chamber of Commerce said in the release, "You just have to visit downtown Towson for a Friday Night Feet on the Street concert or go to the farmer's market to see that this is a thriving place for young families."

"For generations, Catonsville has been a great place to raise a family. It's nice to be recognized for what we've always known,"  Catonsville Councilman Tom Quirk said in the release.

Teal Cary, executive director of the Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce said in the release that many features of Catonsville makes it "perfect" for young families, such as its schools, recreation areas with hiking and biking paths, farmers markets and a thriving main street.
