Baltimore County Police and hazardous material units responded to an oil spill in front of the Wilkens Precinct in Catonsville Wednesday afternoon, said Julia Hardgrove, spokeswoman for the Baltimore County Police.

A delivery truck was attempting to make a delivery to the police station, when oil spilled from the vehicle, Hardgrove said.

Nine pieces of fire equipment were dispatched, she said.

Maryland Department of the Environment's emergency response team also responded to the scene, said MDE spokesman Jay Apperson.

A pump malfunctioned on the fuel delivery truck, which caused an unknown quantity of gasoline to spill, Apperson said.

Apperson said the emergency response team put a boom, a temporary floating barrier used to contain oil, into a nearby stream.

The truck driver, who was exposed to the oil, was taken to St. Agnes Hospital to be checked for injuries, Hardgrove said.

The MDE emergency response team was working to contain the spill as of 5 p.m., Apperson said.
