Catonsville Library extends bookmark design contest

The Catonsville Library is extending the deadline for its 50th anniversary bookmark design contest to Friday, Oct. 18.

The contest encourages students from preschool through eighth grade to design a bookmark depicting something they enjoy about visiting the library, their favorite book or author or reading in general, an email from Assistant Library Manager Pat Palermo.

“The bookmark submissions will be judged by a member from our Baltimore County Public Library art department and a member of our Catonsville Friends [of the Library] group,” Palermo said in an email.

According to the entry form, Bookmarks will be judged on “originality, design and reproducibility.”

Any child who lives or attends school in Baltimore County can enter. Art must be produced solely by the child, without any adult or outside help.

Winners will be chosen in each of four age groups — preschool through kindergarten, first through third grade, fourth through fifth grade and sixth through eighth grade.

The winning bookmarks will be printed for distribution at the library and the winners will receive a prize, Palermo said.
