A 62-year-old man has been charged with stabbing his stepson in Catonsville.

A man has been charged with stabbing his adult stepson in Catonsville Tuesday, Baltimore County police said.

John Leonard Smith, 62, had been arguing with the victim inside their home in the 2000 block of North Norhurst Way, police said, when the argument escalated into a fight. Smith followed the victim — who was not named — outside and stabbed him once in the upper body, police said.

Officers were dispatched at 6:28 p.m., and the man was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was expected to survive, police said.

Smith, who was arrested at the scene, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and related charges. He is held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

No lawyer was listed for Smith in Maryland court records.
