( Algerina Perna, Baltimore Sun / February 26, 2013 ) Cecily Anderson's class cheers after winning the Vocab Olympics. Anderson is the chair of the English Department, and originated the idea of the program several years ago. Catonsville Middle School holds its Vocab Olympics. Principal Michael Thorne describes it as, "a culminating activity for 'Vocab. Smackdown,' a program designed to teach students 1 new vocabulary word per subject per week for 4 months, which helps with state testing in reading and math." |
