2 children, 1 adult dead after Baltimore County apartment fire

A woman and her two young children died in an overnight fire in the Lake Walker area of Baltimore County, the Fire Department said Sunday.

Firefighters went to the 6300 block of Holly Lane around 4:30 a.m. and found fire coming from the third floor. Once inside, the firefighters found the three victims unconscious and in critical condition in a bedroom.

The three victims were taken to local hospitals, where they were pronounced dead. They were identified as Bra Angah-McCray, 26; Aimee McCray, 4; and Adriel McCray, 3.

A firefighter was also taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Fire Department said it believes the fire might have been accidental and started in the kitchen. The investigation into the cause is continuing.

Nikki Morgan said she was driving home from a wedding in New York and saw a phalanx of fire trucks and emergency vehicles. She isn’t sure if the children were those who regularly play with her dog, Coco.

“You could smell the ash in the air,” she said. “I still can’t believe it because Coco plays with the children in the complex and it’s really heartbreaking. You don’t think that’s going to happen right in your complex.”

About 40 firefighters responded to the fire. The apartment complex was damaged by smoke and water and 16 residents were displaced.

An earlier version misstated the age of Bra Angah-McCray. The Sun regrets the error.
