Motorcycle rider killed in I-83 crash

A motorcycle operator was killed Friday night in a collision on Interstate 83 near Ruxton Road, Maryland state police said.

About 8 p.m., a Suzuki GSXR motorcycle headed north on I-83 went out of control and struck the driver's side of a northbound Chevrolet Impala, according to police at the Golden Ring barrack, which responded. The motorcycle left the highway and struck a guardrail, throwing the rider off, police said.

The motorcycle operator was identified by police as Richard Ira Lewis Sr., 22, of Baltimore. He was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he died of his injuries about 9 p.m. Police said speed may have been a factor in the collision, but alcohol did not appear involved.
