Baltimore man charged in Halethorpe bar shooting

Police charged a Southwest Baltimore man with attempted first-degree murder in a shooting at DePaola's Pub in Halethorpe early Saturday.

Derrick Joseph Leonard, 34, of the 2600 block of Wilkens Ave. is accused of shooting at Carl Linton, 23, who was working security at the bar. Police said Leonard was intoxicated and Linton was escorting him out of the bar when Linton was shot.

Linton retreated into the bar, and Leonard followed him back inside, firing additional shots, police said.

Bar patrons subdued Leonard and held him until officers arrived, according to police. Police recovered a handgun as evidence.

Both Leonard and Linton were taken to area hospitals for treatment. Leonard was being held Monday without bail at Baltimore County Detention Center. He is also being charged with use of a firearm.

Police did not have details on Linton's condition on Monday. It was unclear where Linton lives.
