Man shot when he refuses to give up shoes, police say

A 25-year-old was shot in the leg after he refused to give up his shoes during a robbery Monday night, Baltimore County police said.

Police said on Tuesday several suspects approached the victim in the area of St Regis Road and Framingham Road when they surrounded him, and took his cell phone and wallet. The suspects then fled. One suspect, however, returned and demanded the victim hand over his shoes.

Police said the victim refused and started to run away when the suspect shot him at least once in the lower body.

Officers were called at 7:16 p.m. and found the victim nearby in the 5900 block of Schering Road. The injury was not life-threatening, police said, and no suspect description was provided.

Police spokesman Cpl. John Wachter said there was "nothing significant" about the shoes, saying they weren't expensive designer shoes, but said that it's not uncommon during street robberies for the suspects to take an article of clothing.

The county's violent crime unit is investigating. Detectives have not yet determined whether the victim was targeted.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Baltimore County Police at 410-307-2020 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
