Members of a Baltimore County public employees union are guaranteed not to be furloughed or laid off through 2015 under a new labor agreement announced Wednesday.
The Baltimore County Federation of Public Employees, which represents about 1,600 members, agreed to higher pension contributions for corrections officers hired after July 1, 2011.
Those employees will contribute 10 percent, rather than 8 percent, to their pensions, according to a statement from County Executive Kevin Kamenetz's office.
The contract extension also guarantees that members will get scheduled increment and longevity increases over the next three years, but workers will not receive cost-of-living increases.
BCFPE members include county corrections officers, 911 workers, highway supervisors and office workers. The union's contract had expired in July without a new agreement.
The county has previously reached deals through 2014 with the firefighters, nurses and sheriffs unions. Officials have not reached agreements with AFSCME Local 921 or the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 4.
