Two politicians from Baltimore County said last week that campaign materials for a House of Delegates candidate incorrectly implied that they had endorsed him.
County Councilwoman Vicki Almond and Del. Dan Morhaim released a join statement Friday "to clarify their position" after an email and web site posting from Dr. Jay Jalisi.
Quotes and photos from Almond and Morhaim were included in a campaign email Jalisi sent to voters Friday. His website also depicts them in a section called "Endorsements." Jalisi is among nine Democrats running for three seats in the House's 10th district, which includes Reisterstown and Randallstown.
Jalisi said he didn't claim either Almond or Morhaim endorsed him – and that he never asked for their endorsements. He asked both for a "statement of support," he said. "The words are exactly what they gave me, along with their photographs," he said.
On Friday, he said he planned to remove the heading "Endorsements" on his website, which he said was a typo. The heading has since been changed to "Support Statements."
Almond has "had a relationship with Jay in the past, but we were surprised to see it, because he implied there was an endorsement, and there wasn't an endorsement," Almond campaign manager Joel Beller said.
