Four people died in different crashes in Baltimore County this past week, police said.
On Monday afternoon, police said Derrick Lawson, 33, was driving a motor scooter and was struck by an SUV at Hollins Ferry and Hammonds Ferry roads in Lansdowne.
The driver of the Honda CRV was headed east on Hollins Ferry, and Lawson was traveling north on Hammonds Ferry. Lawson, of the 2900 block of Grantley Ave. in Baltimore, was taken to Saint Agnes Hospital where he died.
The department's crash team is investigating. The state's attorney's office will review the case and decide whether to charge the driver of the SUV.
On Saturday night, police said Bert Sylvester Bush, 35, died shortly before midnight after he was struck, walking across Back River Neck Road, near Poles Road in Essex.
Police said he was struck by a 2000 Volkswagen Passat, headed south, and believe that pedestrian error may be a factor in the crash.
Bush, whose last known address is the 300 block of Bentalou St. in Baltimore, was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center where he died.
Around 11 p.m. Saturday, police were also called to Bellona Avenue and Charles Street in Towson where John Kelly, 59, of the 400 block of Venable Ave. in Baltimore, was headed south on Bellona when his 1971 Chevrolet Nova skidded across the center line, hit the curb, and rolled onto its roof.
Kelly was declared dead at the scene. Police said the crash remains under investigation.
A fourth person died after a crash on Friday afternoon in the 11800 block of Greenspring Ave. in Owings Mills.
Police said Peter Winkenwerder, 73, was driving a 1990 Honda Civic north on Greenspring Avenue, when he crossed the center line and struck a 2008 Honda Pilot headed south.
Winkenwerder, of the 3700 block of Belmont Road in Reisterstown, was taken to Sinai Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The crash also remains under investigation.
