PERFORMER OF THE YEAR: Amanda Kimbers, McDonogh

The junior played a major role in McDonogh repeating as Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland champion this spring. A versatile performer, she helped the Eagles in sprints, relays and field events. She won the 100 (12.20 seconds) and 200 (25.29), ran on the first-place 400 relay (49.80) and took third in the long jump at the IAAM title meet.

Kimbers' absence from the winter meet because of a freak foot injury likely cost the Eagles the title, and cocoach Jeff Sanborn said they were thrilled to have her back this spring.

COACH OF THE YEAR: Sarah Sheetz, Catonsville

She did a good job of helping build the Comets into a well-rounded team that came in second in the county and sixth in the state in Class 3A. She had All-Metro performer Kellie Christian, and a number of other good performers in sprints, relays and field events gave the team a good foundation throughout the season.

The Comets suffered a tough loss in the Baltimore County meet, coming in a close second to Hereford, but bounced back later to edge the Bulls in the state meet.
