All-Baltimore County: Girls lacrosse

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Carly Napora, McDonogh

The area's top line defenderexcelled in every way for ateam that allowed just 6.9goals per game. Quick andfearless, Napora stood up to11 charging foes this seasonand took 43 charges duringher Eagles career.

The senior had the quickfeet and controlled stick tocontain attackers one-on-one,but she also had thefield sense and anticipationto slip easily into the slides.Tenacious in practice as wellas in games, Napora challengedherself to improveeach day, and that helpedher play a much bigger gamethan her physical staturemight indicate.

COACHES OF THE YEAR: Mary Bartel and Lisa Costello, Notre Dame Prep

The Blazers weren't on theradar in preseason after going7-10 a year ago, but Barteland Costello turned theminto a 13-7 team as they roseto No. 6 in the rankings andpushed No. 1 John Carroll toovertime before falling in theInterscholastic Athletic Associationof Maryland A Conferencesemifinals.

Bartel said this group simplyneeded to be "fostered tomaturity," and that showedas it steadily improved. Theplayers grew into a true teamthat could not have givenmore in the John Carrollgame. While the loss was difficult, the coaches said thiswas one of the most rewardingexperiences of their careers.
