So it was a mystery when Kenney, 46, was found face-down in a neighbor's driveway early Monday, dead of multiple gunshot wounds. A resident of the 3500 block of Tulsa Road in western Baltimore County discovered him about 7:30 a.m.
"He was totally harmless," said Bill Toohey, a spokesman for the Baltimore County police. "He never caused anyone any problem, and no one can figure out why he'd be killed. It no doubt happened while he was walking down the street."
Kenney served four years in the Marines after high school, but not much is known about the years that followed. At the time of his death, he had no full-time employment. Toohey said a neighborhood homeowner "gave him a place to live" in a shed with few material comforts.
Detectives in Towson unearthed a picture of Kenney taken in November 2002, when he was charged with second-degree assault, found guilty and briefly jailed. In February of the previous year, he was accused of a minor theft.
Homicide investigators believe the motive for his slaying might have been robbery, but they have little evidence to work with and are asking for the public's help in finding his killer.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 410-307-2020 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP.
