Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department to mark 80 years of service with parade, festival

The Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department will mark its 80th anniversary with a parade through downtown and a “Summer Fest” on its property on Friday, July 13.

The parade will get underway with the fire department’s bagpipe band, said Jimmy Malone, chairman of the parade. “It's a fireman's parade, so we'll have a lot of different fire equipment, a lot of community groups,” he said.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Tom Day Boulevard and Oregon Avenue, continue along Oregon Avenue to East Drive, travel down East Drive to Linden Avenue and end at the firehouse, off Linden Avenue.

The parade is being hosted concurrently with the department’s 2018 “Summer Fest,” a two-day event featuring food trucks, children’s games, a beer garden and other vendors osted on the fire department grounds directly behind the station.

The “Summer Fest” runs from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and noon to 11 p.m. Saturday.

More information for the events and registration for the parade can be found online at http://arbutusvfd.org/Summer_Fest.htm.
