Halethorpe trucking company to host driving competition Saturday

Cowan Systems, 4555 Hollins Ferry Road, will host its 10th annual Driving Championships on May 10, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Drivers will compete to be among the top six finalists who will represent Cowan in the statewide competition scheduled for June 7 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium.

Members of the Maryland State Police will serve as judges and representatives from Baltimore County's Halethorpe Fire Department will be at the event to promote fire safety actions.

The event is also a fundraiser for Joey's Fund, a Cowan charity set up in the memory of Josephine Gay, a 7-year-old Ravens fan born in Columbia who was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings.

Saturday's event will include a dunk tank for the fund as well as face painting for the children, and other activities.
