A 16-month-old girl died in Lansdowne Friday after a male relative failed to drop her off at day care and left her in his scorching truck for four hours, Baltimore County police said.
Police identified the toddler as Sybriya Towels, of the 2700 block of South Paca St. The relative has not been identified.
He picked up the girl at one location Friday morning and was supposed to drop her off at the Highland Village Head Start Center, but instead drove to their shared home and went inside to sleep, police said.
After four hours, he went to the center to pick up the girl, but "after learning that the child had not been dropped off, he ran back out to the truck and found the child in the vehicle," police said in a statement. Police and fire units responded to the 4100 block of McDowell Lane at 12:58 p.m.
The girl was taken to St. Agnes Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The case will be referred to the Baltimore County state's attorney for review. No criminal charges have been filed.
