Baltimore City Council president hosts health event for 600 seniors

Baltimore City Council President Bernard C. “Jack” Young plans to host a health event for about 600 seniors Thursday — offering testing for Hepatitis C, free immunizations and yoga.

The event — which is being co-sponsored by CareFirst, AARP and Johns Hopkins — will gather more than 60 vendors to provide a wide array of services and information for seniors.

The Council President’s Senior Symposium will offer seniors access to health screenings, like testing for Hepatitis C, a deadly disease that’s five times more likely to be present in older adults.

The 600 seniors attending also will participate in chair yoga exercises, featuring the choreography of an instructor who specializes in working with older adults.

It will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Patapsco Arena at 3301 Annapolis Road in Baltimore.
