A man was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood of West Baltimore, according to police.

The shooting occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on North Calhoun Street, near Gilmor Street, two blocks from the Metro station on Pennsylvania Avenue and about eight blocks from where two men were shot and wounded Friday afternoon.

City police said Jermaine Shuron, 37, suffered a gun shot wound to the head and was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital trauma center, where he later died from his injuries.

Officers said the victim was approached by two suspects, who later fled on foot.

Police could not say whether the shootings over the past two days were related.

On Friday, two men were shot along West North Avenue at McCulloh Street. A 42-year-old man was hit in the back and a 28-year-old man was struck several times. Those shootings occurred about 3:15 p.m. and were apparently interrupted by a police officer who heard the gunshots and arrived in time to see the gunman firing a weapon.

Police said the officer fired off at least one shot as the gunman jumped into the passenger seat of a silver colored car and was driven away. No arrests have been made and police did not know whether the officer's gunfire struck anyone.
