Man found fatally shot in parked car in N.E. Baltimore

City police were investigating two homicides, including the fatal shooting of a 42-year-old man found in a car early Wednesday in Northeast Baltimore's Belair Edison neighborhood.

The man's body was found at about 2 a.m. in the 3600 block of Chesterfield Ave., police said. He was slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle and had been shot in the head, police said. His identity was not immediately released, pending notification of his next of kin.

Detectives were also investigating the Tuesday afternoon killing of a 21-year-old man in East Baltimore's Berea neighborhood. Ryshawn Cox, of the 4100 block of Eldoran Ave., was found lying in front of a home in the 900 block of N. Belnord Ave., suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. He was pronounced dead at 1:45 p.m.

Anthony Guglielmi, the police department's chief spokesman, said detectives had a person of interest in the case, though a motive was not disclosed.

As of Wednesday morning, 123 people have been slain in Baltimore this year, compared with 119 at this point last year, records show.

Police provided this week the name of one of this year's previously unidentified victims, saying Marvin Hayes, 22, was the man stabbed to death on July 19 in the 800 block of N. Gilmor St. in West Baltimore. Hayes' last known address was in the 1600 block of W. Lanvale St., police said.
