An armed man shot by Baltimore police Sunday evening has died, according to a spokesman for the department.

Police received a call shortly before 9 p.m. from a person inside a house in the 3600 block of St. Victor Street in the Southern District, saying that another person in the house was armed, the spokesman, Anthony Guglielmi, said. He said patrol officers entered the house and found an armed man and asked him multiple times to put down his weapon.

"He turned and faced police with a weapon in his hand and was fired upon," said Guglielmi, who said at least one officer fired. He did not know how many officers had responded to the call.

The man was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center where he later died, Guglielmi said. Police did not name the man, pending family notification, but Guglielmi said he was a 52-year-old with no criminal record.

Homicide detectives are investigating, a practice that is standard in police-involved shootings, Guglielmi said.
