Baltimore officers indicted on new extortion charges

Federal prosecutors have filed another indictment against two Baltimore police officers accused of taking kickbacks from the owners of the Majestic Auto Repair shop in Rosedale.

Samuel Ocasio and Kelvin Quade Manrich have each been charged in a "superseding indictment," filed late Wednesday, with conspiracy to commit extortion and three counts of extortion for allegedly accepting payments for steering car customers to Majestic.

Seventeen other officers and two Majestic owners have been charged in the scheme, and most have taken plea deals or arranged to take them.

Ocasio and Manrich are scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges next week. Ocasio plans to plead not guilty, according to his attorney, Thomas L. Crowe. A lawyer for Manrich could not be reached.
