A Baltimore police officer was injured on southbound Interstate 83 Thursday evening when her patrol car was rear-ended by another vehicle.
Police said the accident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. as the Northern District patrol officer was helping a motorist with a disabled vehicle near 28th Street. Police could not confirm whether the officer was inside her cruiser at the time.
Detective Kevin Brown, a police spokesman, said the officer suffered minor injuries, including scrapes to the elbow and leg. "She was taken to the hospital as a precaution and released shortly thereafter," Brown said.
Police said there has been no decision as to whether the driver of the second vehicle will be charged. His name was not released.
The situation was similar to an accident that occurred June 21 when Officer Teresa Rigby was thrown over a jersey barrier after her cruiser was rear-ended. Rigby's car pushed her off the same elevated highway about two miles north from Thursday's incident.
Rigby fell about 30 feet to the pavement below and is still recovering from her injuries.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
