Man's body pulled from the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River

Baltimore City fire crews pulled a man's body from the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River in south Baltimore Friday evening, a spokesman confirmed.

A fire department rescue boat was dispatched around 6 p.m. after several 911 calls reported a body floating in the about 100 yards west the Hanover Street Bridge, near the Baltimore Rowing Club, said fire department spokesman Kevin Cartwright. Crews pulled the body of an unconscious, unresponsive man from the water and he was pronounced dead, Cartwright said.

He did not know the identity of the victim, but said the body was being taken to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

City police are investigating the death as a possible suicide.
