Man, 43, charged with fatally stabbing father, 73

Baltimore Police say a 73-year-old Northwest Baltimore man who was trying to break up a fight between his adult children was fatally stabbed by his son.

Jerome Marlowe Jr., 43, was arrested at the scene, in the 4100 block of Chatham Road in Dorchester, and has been charged with killing his father, Jerome Marlowe Sr., and trying to kill his 31-year-old sister.

Police said that the younger Marlowe agreed to speak with investigators, and said the stabbings had been committed in self-defense.

He said that he and his sister, whose named is redacted from court records provided by the agency, were arguing about "making noise and leaving the lights on," police said.

He said that his sister threw a vase at him, which prompted him to grab a knife from the kitchen. He went to his sister's room, and his father stepped in front of him. The younger Marlowe claimed that his father told him to stop fighting or "he would kill him."

Marlowe Jr. said he stabbed his father, then stabbed his sister, and ran out of the house. Witnesses told police that he chased his sister to a neighbor's house, then retreated back to the family home.

Police found Marlowe Sr. lying on the living room steps unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead at a hospital. His sister was listed in critical condition this morning.
