A Johns Hopkins University junior struck by a hit-and-run driver Friday in Charles Village afternoon died early Saturday.

Miriam Frankl, 20, was pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m., said Baltimore police spokesman Donny Moses. Police are still seeking the driver, who was in a white Ford F250 pickup truck.

Frankl, a molecular and cell biology major from the Chicago area, had walked out of the Marylander Apartments and stepped into the 3500 block of St. Paul St. when she was hit by a commercial pickup truck, a Hopkins spokeswoman said.

Frankl was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority, the university said.

"Miriam's parents were with her when she died. They have told us they were greatly moved and comforted by the presence of so many of Miriam's friends at the hospital with them last night," the university said in a statement e-mailed to students.

"Every student contributes in no small measure to the community we create together at Johns Hopkins. The loss of any student, particularly in so tragic and senseless a manner, grievously wounds us all," the statement continued.

Moses said the pickup truck has damage to the front passenger side and Maryland tag 94W412.
