Fire damages condo in Perryville

A fire damaged a condo unit in Perryville Tuesday morning, the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office reported.

The fire was reported at 9:53 a.m. in the first block of Owens Landing.

No injuries were reported and the fire was contained to the outside balcony of the condominium, Chief Brian Jones of Community Fire Company of Perryville said.

When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the balcony, he said. It took about 10 minutes to control the fire.

About 30 firefighters from Perryville, Perry Point, Havre de Grace and Port Deposit responded, Jones said.

The condo was not occupied at the time.

The fire was found to have been caused by discarded smoking materials and it caused about $5,000 worth of damage, Deputy Chief Bruce Bouch, with the State Fire Marshal's Office, said.
