Severna Park wraps up county tennis title

The Anne Arundel County tennis tournament concluded on Monday with Severna Park claiming its fifth straight county title. The Falcons won all three of Monday's finals that had been rained out on Friday to clinch the team victory.

In boys doubles on Monday, the Falcons' Jake Larson and Andrew Province defeated Broadneck's Max Misner and Harrison Brown 6-1, 6-3.

In an all-Severna Park matchup in girls doubles, Emma Brindley and Maddie Altman outlasted teammates Lauren Breitinger and Grace Appel 5-7, 7-6(4), 6-4.

In mixed doubles, Matthew Kilchenstein and Sophia Whitney defeated Cammie Norton and Andreas Linke of Arundel 6-2, 7-6(5).

Severna Park finished first with 34 points, followed by Broadneck with 31.

The Falcons went undefeated in the county during the regular season for an 11th straight season.

On Friday, Severna Park's Abby Moghtader captured the girls singles championship with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Kennedy Smith of Annapolis for her second consecutive county title.

Broadneck's Finn Garner won the boys singles title with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Michael Miller of Arundel.

The top six finishers from each of the five brackets advance to the region tournament, which will begin Thursday at North Point and conclude Saturday at Annapolis.

Following the region tournament, the state tournament will take place May 26-27 at the Wilde Lake Tennis Club in Columbia.
