Prep Roundup: Southern wins first region title in softball

Caitlin Brumley singled up the middle to score Hannah Davis in the top of the sixth inning for the game's only run as Southern won its first region softball championship with a 1-0 victory over host LaPlata on Thursday.

Thanks to winning the South Region, the Bulldogs earned a trip to Tuesday's 2A state semifinal where they'll play the winner of Catoctin and South Carroll, who play Friday. Tuesday's game will be played at Bachman Park.

Davis singled and reached third on a throwing error to set up Brumley's game-winning hit. Brumley also struck out three and limited LaPlata to a pair of hits in the complete-game effort for her third postseason victory this week.

LaPlata is the defending Class 2A champion

MIAA C Conference quarterfinals

INDIAN CREEK 18, CHAPELGATE 7: Brian Lord erupted for five goals and Sam Homick and McKenzie Jenkins combined for seven goals for the Eagles (13-3) in this MIAA C Conference quarterfinal contest. Sammy Carter and Langston Sheppard each scored two goals while Jenkins assisted on five scores.

Indian Creek will face Pallotti next. The day for this semifinal contest has yet to be determined.
