Baseball/Softball: O'Neal's clutch hit lifts Annapolis over South River

Bradley O'Neal's single in the top of the seventh scored the eventual game-winning run as sixth-seeded Annapolis surprised No. 3 South River, 6-5, on Friday in their Class 4A East Region Section II quarterfinal.

Cameron Good, Sam Kasprow and Tripp Templeton each drove in a run in for Annapolis, which will travel to North Point on Saturday for a section semifinal. Jack Sutherland earned the win for the Panthers.

Kavi Caster had a double and an RBI, Lennie Lehner and Sean Leonard had a double apiece and Keaton Goetzger had an RBI for South River.

Class 4A East Region Section II quarterfinals

BROADNECK 3, LEONARDTOWN 1: John Jenkins pitched six innings of one-hit ball, allowed one unearned run and three walks, and struck out four and Liam Henderson drove in two as the Bruins topped the Raiders. Broadneck advances to play Chopticon in the section semifinals on Saturday at noon. . Griffin Honse had two hits and an RBI and Luke Tuttle also delivered two hits for the Bruins.

Class 4A East Region Section I quarterfinals

NORTH COUNTY 2, GLEN BURNIE 1: Troy Andrzejewski went the distance, allowed three hits, including two bunt singles, struck out nine, walked one and didn't give up an earned run to lead the Knights over the Gophers. Andrzejewski also doubled for North County, which advances to play top-seeded Severna Park on Monday at Bachman Park. Fernando Valenzuela drove in both runs for the Knights, while David Kates had one of Glen Burnie's three hits.

OLD MILL 16, MEADE 6 (5 INN.): Bryce Jackson had three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs while Caden Bailey rapped a pair of hits, including a double, while collecting three RBIs as the Patriots marched past the Mustangs. Hunter McKean and Brian Cordell each had a double amongst their two hits with McKean collecting an RBI. Darren Donastorg drove in four runs with a double and two hits for Meade while Derek Donastorg a double and a single and drove in a run.

Old Mill is scheduled to play at Arundel on Saturday at 1 p.m.

JAMES M. BENNETT 6, NORTHEAST 0: A three-run triple and a walk helped Bennett post five runs in the sixth to pull away.

Class 4A East Region Section I quarterfinals

NORTH COUNTY 7, OLD MILL 3: Brittney Allender went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI and Ciana Bayza drove in two runs as the Knights advanced past the Patriots. Destiny Zornes struck out three to earn the win and Kyleigh McQuade and Corrine Hayhurst each had an RBI for North County. Jordan Kingston doubled and knocked in a run for Old Mill.

GLEN BURNIE 12, MEADE 2 (5 INN.): Katie Gouty had a double and three RBIs and Ihley DeBow allowed just two hits in four innings of work as the Gophers defeated the Mustangs. Glen Burnie will play top-seeded Severna Park on Monday at 4 p.m. at Bachman Park in a section semifinal.

Destiny Garcia doubled and drove in both runs and Lindsey Gotwalt had a base hit for Meade.
