Two men in critical condition following Pasadena crash

Two men were transported to Maryland Shock Trauma in critical condition after their vehicle crashed into a tree in Pasadena early Friday morning, police said.

At around 1:56 a.m., a 2003 Porsche Cayenne traveling east on Catherine Avenue at more than 70 miles per hour struck a curb at a curve in the roadway near Harlem Avenue, partially tearing the right front wheel in the process, Anne Arundel County Police said. The vehicle continued to follow a straight path, crossing two front yards and a driveway, before hitting a large tree.

The impact of hitting the tree spun the vehicle into another tree, before it came to rest, police said.

The driver, John Raymond David Lippold Jr., 24, of Fredricksburg, Va. and the passenger, Kyle Norwood Philhower, 23, of Pasadena had to be extricated from the vehicle, police said.

Investigators said excessive speed and alcohol are considered contributing factors in the crash. Charges are pending following a review by the State's Attorney's Office.
