Family and friends will gather Saturday night to mark one year since the hit-and-run crash on Pasadena's Mountain Road that killed 15-year-old Skylar Marion.
A candlelight vigil is planned for 7:30 p.m. at Lake Shore Elementary School, 4531 Mountain Road.
A local pastor will lead a prayer and attendees are invited to bring mementos and to share memories of Skylar. Candles will be provided by the family of Kyle Wilkerson, a Pasadena teenager who received Skylar's heart in a transplant.
Skylar and two friends were walking to a store on Mountain Road at 9:25 p.m. on April 12, 2013 when two of them were struck by an SUV. Skylar died April 15 at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
Anne Arundel County police have not found the responsible driver, who was driving a 1997 to 2002 Ford Expedition. After the accident police said they expected that the Expedition would have damage to the passenger-side fender, headlight and grill. The mirror and some of the glass may have also been damaged.
Police are still seeking tips in the investigation. Tips can be submitted anonymously to Metro Crime Stoppers by calling 1-866-7LOCKUP, sending a text of "MCS" plus the message to CRIMES (274637) or via metrocrimestoppers.org. Over the past year, friends and family have raised $20,000 for a reward fund, said Dawn Caley, Skylar's aunt. She said the family has been buoyed by the support of the Pasadena community.
"Pasadena has definitely rallied together," she said.
