Three people allegedly in the midst of stealing copper wiring in Hanover were thwarted when their getaway car became stuck in the mud, according to Anne Arundel County police.
Police said the three suspects cut their way through a fence to get to a secluded business in a wooded area in the 7200 block of Park Circle Drive late Wednesday night. They then broke into a fenced storage area and took copper cables from generators. As they were trying to leave, their pickup truck became stuck in the mud and they called a tow truck company.
Officers arrived as the tow truck was pulling the pickup truck from behind the business, and placed Robert Oliff, 51, of Laurel, and Dennis Asmussen, 41, of Jessup, under arrest. A third, unknown suspect fled and police were unable to capture him.
Oliff and Asmussen face burglary, theft and other charges, according to police. Online court records in the case were unavailable Thursday morning and it was not determined if they have obtained attorneys.
