A Glen Burnie man has been charged in connection with five burglary and theft incidents after a homeowner saw him and chased him down early Sunday morning, Anne Arundel County police said.
Police said that about 6:45 a.m., a resident of Margate Drive heard a loud noise and a car alarm going off in the driveway. The resident went outside and saw the window was smashed, the inside of the vehicle was in disarray and a man was standing behind a nearby fence with a book bag, police said. Other items were piled by where the man was standing.
The suspect ran off and the resident chased him. Police were called, and when they arrived they said they found the resident laying on top of the suspect.
Police found a sledge hammer and stolen items when they searched the suspect. Officers found six other vehicles in the area had been broken into. Police said they found evidence at the suspect's home linking him to burglaries and thefts.
James Michael Kolkto, 27, of Wendover Road in Glen Burnie, was charged in five incidents, including incidents on the 100 block of Margate Drive, the 800 block of Scott Circle, the unit block of Cedar Hill Drive, a residential burglary and theft from a vehicle in the unit block of Queen Anne Road and a shed burglary and thefts of vehicles on the unit block of Highland Drive.
Koltko faces a total of seven charges of theft of less than $1,000, eight charges of malicious destruction of property, one count of first-degree burglary, one count of second-degree burglary, one count of third-degree burglary and three counts of fourth-degree burglary, police said.
