Two dozen people displaced by Glen Burnie apartment fire

No one one was injured when a three-alarm fire swept through an apartment building in Glen Burnie on Sunday afternoon, Anne Arundel County fire officials said.

Firefighters went to the Country Club apartments in the 7500 block of Furnace Branch Road at about 2:20 p.m. and found fire shooting through the roof of one of the buildings, said Firefighter Eric Hammack, a fire spokesman.

It took 66 firefighters from Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City and Fort George G. Meade about an hour to bring the fire under control, Hammack said. No one was injured and all of the residents got out before firefighters arrived.

The American Red Cross was called in to help 16 adults and eight children who were displaced from nine apartments that were damaged, Hammack said.

The fire is under investigation and the cause has not yet been determined, Hammack said.

Furnace Branch Road remained closed in both directions at 4 p.m. as emergency crews remained on the scene.
