Gunpowder nature hike

Wednesday, Gunpowder Falls State Park, Masemore Road. The Hereford area of the Gunpowder houses some rare native plants. This three-mile hike will be very slow, but there will be some steep hills and a scramble over rocks. Call 410-366-7239 for details.

Seeds of success

Compass course

Observant owls

Wednesday, 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., Soldier's Delight N.E.A., 5100 Deer Park Road, Owings Mills. Learn about and see owls native to Maryland. Enjoy a story and a craft with a naturalist. Suitable for children 3-5 years old. Meet in the kids room at the visitors center. Call 410-461-5005 to register. Cost: $5 per child.

Explore Kilgore Falls

Friday, 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Rocks State Park, 3318 Rocks Chrome Hill Road, Jarrettsville. Join park naturalist to explore the falls and discover who's living there among the rocks and ferns.
