A man broke into a motel room in Linthicum Heights on Monday night, demanded money and shot another man inside the room amid a struggle, Anne Arundel County police said Tuesday morning.
A 30-year-old man and his girlfriend were inside a room in the Motel 6 in the 5100 block of Raynor Avenue when the suspect tried to barge in through the door at about 9:25 p.m., said Lt. T.J. Smith, a county police spokesman.
The victim tried to shut the door unsuccessfully as the suspect demanded money and hit the victim with a gun. The male suspect shot the victim in his upper torso as the two fought, and the victim was able to get hold of the gun and shoot the suspect in the arm, Smith said. The victim's injuries are not expected to be life-threatening and the woman was not injured.
The suspect fled in a dark Acura, and police believe he is the same man who turned up at a nearby hospital 20 minutes later with a gunshot wound to his arm. The suspect, Kevin Leon McGee Jr., 28, of Landover Hills, is being guarded in the hospital pending charges that include first-degree assault and armed robbery, Smith said. The motive is believed to be drug-related, Smith said.
