Eight people were injured when at least one vehicle hit pedestrians north of Crofton, a fire official said Saturday night.

The collision happened on the northbound side of Route 3 near the intersection of Johns Hopkins Road, said Lt. Keith Hamilton, a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

A 30-year-old man was flown to the trauma center at Prince George's Hospital Center with life-threatening injuries and a 13-year-old girl was driven to pediatric trauma at Johns Hopkins Children's Center, he said.

Six other people were taken to hospitals with serious injuries.

The northbound lanes of Route 3 were still shut down as of 11:30 p.m. Saturday night, Hamilton said.

He did not have any more information about the accident.
