Police investigating homicide in Crownsville

An Annapolis taxi driver was found dead in Crownsville this morning, the apparent victim of a homicide, according to Anne Arundel County police.

Benjamin Delano Kirby, Jr., 41, was found dead in a driveway near the intersection of Honeysuckle Lane and Generals Highway.

Police had been called to the 1100 block of Honeysuckle Lane at about 6 a.m. to check out an unoccupied taxi van. They found the van's meter was running and there was blood inside, indicating a struggle.

Police searched the area and found Kirby's body in a driveway. They said Kirby had suffered from trauma to his upper body.

Police have not established a motive or suspect and they are unsure whether it was a random or targeted incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 410-222-3566.

If confirmed, Kirby would be the third victim of homicide in Anne Arundel County so far this year. On Jan. 25, 21-year-old Ana Isabel Racine was shot dead in the 200 block of Meadow Road in the Riviera Beach neighborhood of Pasadena.

On Jan. 27, 52-year-old Thomas Alan Goat was killed in a Glen Burnie home by his roommate, Michael Allen Nelson, who then turned the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide.
