Javaid Firdaus, 63, of the 300 block of Thelma Ave., was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where he died, police said. This was the 19th fatal crash in the county this year.
County police also said she took a relative's vehicle without permission. Ramirez and her passenger in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Monique Spriggs, 19, of the 1800 block of Aberdeen Circle, Crofton, were treated for minor injuries and released, according to police.
Police said that around 1:41 a.m., Firdaus was behind the wheel of a Ford Crown Victoria, heading north on Route 3 in Crofton. The car, in the right lane, was going through the intersection with Davidson Road when it was struck by the SUV, which was turning left from southbound Route 3 onto Davidsonville Road, police said.
There is a traffic light at the intersection, and in the investigation, police are examining whether either vehicle ran the light, police said. Police said they had no evidence that drugs, alcohol or speeding contributed to the crash.
