Driver seriously injured after rolling car in Arundel

A 29-year-old Deale man was seriously injured after losing control of his vehicle late Thursday night in an accident in Shady Side, Anne Arundel County Police said Friday. Speed and alcohol are believed to have been factors in the crash.

Two passengers were uninjured despite the vehicle overturning and rolling after leaving Muddy Creek Road south of Deal Churchton Road, police said.

Patrick Grimes, 29, of the 100 block of Deale Road, was not wearing a seat belt while driving his 1995 Jeep Cherokee and was ejected from the vehicle when it left the roadway, police said.

Grimes sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center after police and emergency officials responded to the scene about 11:43 p.m. He was listed in serious but stable condition Friday morning, police said.

Jonathan White, of Deale, the front seat passenger, and Christopher Groom, of Shady Side, a back seat passenger, were uninjured, police said.

Police said the "primary cause" of the accident was "failure to drive in a single lane," but also believe alcohol and speed were factors. The investigation is ongoing.
