A Hagerstown woman was charged with child neglect early Tuesday morning after Anne Arundel County police said her two-month-old baby was left with a hotel desk clerk in Linthicum.
Police were called to the Microtel on Winterson Road in Linthicum at 12:16 a.m. after a woman left the baby with the clerk and departed from the hotel with a man. The woman was renting a room and staying with the mother of the child.
Police tracked down both the mother and the woman who rented the room. The mother told police she was visiting a friend and left her baby with the other woman.
Police charged the mother, Leah Lillian Ellison, 32, of N. Locust St. in Hagerstown, with child neglect. Charges are pending against the other woman, police said, and they also are investigating whether the woman was working as a prostitute.
Child Protective Services took custody of the baby, police said.
