Maritime Museum

The museum needs volunteers to expand its environmental education program, conduct tours to the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse, restore wooden boats, interpret the museum's exhibits to the public, and help with events, including the winter seminar and summer concert series. Box of Rain Foundation

Volunteers are needed to act as mentors for the Big Sailor/Little Sailor Program and as sailing instructors. Donations of funds and safety boats for sailing classes, boats, boating equipment — especially life preservers and gear — are also needed. Information: 443-254-0024.

Commission for Women

The Anne Arundel County Commission for Women seeks volunteers to help address issues important to women and families in the county. The commission consists of 16 members representing a diverse cross-section of the community. Members, appointed for two-year terms, are expected to attend monthly meetings, ad hoc committees and working group sessions, a one-day annual planning retreat and commission-sponsored events. Rebuilding Together

Plumbers, electricians, roofers, tilers, painters, installers of drywall, carpeting and floors, and general workers are needed for this all-volunteer nonprofit that repairs and revitalizes homes of low-income elderly and low-income disabled homeowners, as well as homes of low-income families with children. Also needed are volunteers to assist with fundraising, serving on the various committees of the board of directors and computer work. Information: 410-923-9992.

Special Olympics

Volunteers 16 and older are needed as coaches in the evenings to assist with special events and regional competitions, fundraising and more. Information: 410-553-6311 or soaamd.org.

Support groups

Volunteers 25 and older are needed to lead support groups for people with early-stage Alzheimer's and related dementia. Volunteers must be licensed nurses or social workers with knowledge of the progression of the disease and have strong communication and group-support management skills. Volunteers 14 and older are needed to help with blood drives. Volunteers greet donors, provide customer service and serve refreshments. Participants must complete an application and attend an orientation/training session; those older than 18 must undergo a background check. Emmaus Center

Hearts & Homes for Youth

Volunteers 18 and older are needed for tutoring, mentoring, internships, renovation projects, recreation sponsors, office assistance and beautification projects. Youth Services Bureau
