Anne Arundel police
Volunteers are needed for the reserve officer program. This is a uniformed position to assist sworn officers in traffic control, administrative duties, community relations, etc. Prospective volunteers must be older than 21 and undergo a criminal background check. Hours are flexible. Reserve officers work all hours of the day and on weekends. A minimum of 16 service hours per month is required, and volunteers can be placed at any of the four district stations. Centro de Ayuda

The American Red Cross needs volunteers age 14 and older (some positions 18 and older) to greet donors, provide customer service and serve refreshments. Interested persons must complete an application and attend an orientation and training session. Those older than 18 require a background check. Head Start programs
Volunteers 18 and older are needed at seven sites throughout the county to serve as classroom assistants, informal mentors of students and families, and as story-time readers. Medical and background checks are required. Translators, primarily Spanish, are needed to assist Head Start teachers with home visits and handbook/program presentations to families. My Brother's Pantry
Nonprofit, located on the grounds of College Parkway Baptist Church in Arnold, needs volunteers to work in the pantry to help with donated food and other items. Information: 410-757-5190.
Volunteers are needed to drop off donations Monday through Friday for Salvation Army food pantries in Annapolis and Glen Burnie. Suggested items include nonperishable canned goods and boxed food; toiletries are also welcome. Groups that hold food drives can make arrangements to have the food picked up.
