Medicare

Free sessions on annual enrollment for the Medicare Part D prescription program will be held at the county's senior activity centers through Oct. 13.

The sessions take place:

•Pasadena Senior Activity Center, 4103 Mountain Road, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Brooklyn Park Senior Activity Center, 202 Hammonds Lane, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Oct. 3.

•O'Malley Senior Activity Center, 1275 Odenton Road, Odenton, 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Oct. 4.

•South County Senior Activity Center, 27 Stepneys Lane, Edgewater, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Oct. 12.

•Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie, 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 13.

Staff from the Senior Health Insurance Program at the county Department of Aging and Disabilities will discuss the program. Information: 410-222-4464.

Flea market

Donations are needed for the Annapolis Senior Activity Center's annual flea market being held Oct. 26-27 at the center, 119 S. Villa Ave. Donations can be dropped off at the center's front desk 8 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. Mondays-Fridays through Oct. 19. No furniture or clothing. Information: 410-222-1818.

Trips

Annapolis Senior Activity Center members can sign up for a trip Oct. 6 to Parade Land and Jubilee in the Shenandoah Valley, and to the Allenberry Dinner Theater in Boiling Springs, Pa., on Oct. 19. The Parade Land trip features floats and props used in presidential inaugurations, Rose Bowl parades and Macy's Thanksgiving Day parades. The tour will stop for lunch at the Johnny Appleseed Restaurant. The cost of the trip is $85. At the Allenberry Dinner Theater, visitors will see the musical "I Do, I Do" and have a buffet-style meal at the Fairfield Inn. Cost is $78. Information: 410-222-1818.

Bus trip

The O'Malley Senior Activity Center is sponsoring a trip to see the musical "Me and My Girl" at the Dutch Apple Dinner Theater in Lancaster, Pa., on Oct. 12. The bus leaves the center at 9:45 a.m. and returns at 5:15 p.m. The cost of $82 includes a buffet lunch. For reservations and information, call 410-222-6227.

The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities has published its 2011-2012 edition of "Services for Seniors, Adults with Disabilities and Caregivers." The directory includes information on rental and housing assistance, legal help, county Social Services benefits and caregiver information. Single seniors group The Single Seniors Group at Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road in Glen Burnie, encourages companionship, support and group participation in activities such as movies, dances, picnics and tours. Volunteer grandparents The Foster Grandparents Program of the county Department of Aging and Disabilities seeks volunteer grandparents to mentor children with special needs. Volunteers serve 15 to 40 hours a week, providing mentoring, tutoring, advice and attention. Volunteers also teach life skills to children in special education classes and provide staffing for a homeless shelter, family support center and other agencies. Activities may include reading stories, listening, helping children feed themselves, setting the table, working with puzzles, and helping children learn colors, numbers and the alphabet. Volunteers must be income-eligible and at least 60 years old. Benefits include a tax-free stipend, paid training, vacation, sick leave, free transportation, lunch and a physical exam.
