Senior briefs

Encore Chorale

Encore Chorale, a program for older adults, will present a concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Anne Arundel Community College's Pascal Center for the Performing Arts. The group will perform spirituals, Civil War music, and Gilbert and Sullivan. The concert is free and will be conducted by Encore founder Jeanne Kelly, a past conductor of the U.S. Naval Academy Women's Glee Club and Georgetown University Concert Choir. Trips for 2012

Members of the Annapolis Senior Activity Center can stop by the trip desk for a preview of 2012 outings and make reservations and deposits. Trips include a visit to the Peddler's Village Strawberry Festival in Lahaska, Pa., and "Journey of Hope" to Gettysburg, Pa. Information: 410-222-1818.

Support groups

The Department of Aging and Disabilities has revised and updated a booklet on community support groups. The booklet focuses on groups for caregiving, Alzheimer's disease, bereavement for adults and children, diabetes, brain injury, cancer, stroke, cardiac and pulmonary problems, Parkinson's, and bowel and urinary diversions. Residents' rights

Brochures on residents' rights in nursing homes and assisted-living facilities and another brochure on the ombudsman program protecting those residents are available from the Department of Aging and Disabilities. The brochures are titled "Resident's Rights in Nursing Homes/Rehabilitation Centers in Maryland," "Resident's Rights in Assisted Living Facilities in Maryland" and "Ombudsman: Your Resident Advocate." The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities has published its 2011-2012 edition of "Services for Seniors, Adults with Disabilities and Caregivers." The directory includes information on rental and housing assistance, legal help, county social services benefits and caregiver information. Workshop A jewelry repair workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 25. Bring broken costume jewelry to be repaired at no cost, though donations will be accepted. No gold or sterling will be accepted, and no more than three items per person.

Lunch A fish fry will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 26, with entertainment by Pet Rock, a one-man band featuring Tim Amann. The menu includes fried fish, hush puppies, potato salad, cole slaw, corn bread, baked beans, soda and dessert. Tickets are $8.

Quilt Club Participants can help one another with projects and learn ideas and techniques every Friday at 1 p.m. at the O'Malley Annex. Machines are available. New members welcome.

Flea market The event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday, April 26-27, will have door prizes, a bake sale table, and a hot dog lunch.
