Concert series

Composer-pianist Otis Stroup opens the Galilee Fine Arts Series at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at Galilee Lutheran Church, 4652 Mountain Road in Pasadena. He performs an hourlong recital ranging from jazz to blues to rock to Gospel to boogie-woogie. Free admission. A reception follows. Information: 410-255-8236.


St. Paul's Lutheran Church holds its annual "Bless the Years Celebration" Oct. 15-16 at 308 Oak Manor Drive in Glen Burnie. The event helps people recognize and celebrate each year added to their lives as a gift from God and to respond with renewed commitment and service. Information: 410-766-2283.

Children's choir

Four- and 5-year-olds are invited to learn singing skills and be part of a new children's choir at Galilee Lutheran Church, 4652 Mountain Road in Pasadena. G. Thomas Neuenschwander, a retired music educator in Anne Arundel public schools, will be the director. Plans are for the choir to rehearse weekly for half an hour and sing monthly at the church's 10:45 a.m. Sunday service, starting in October. Information: 410-255-8236 or email

New pastor

The Rev. James Bishop Sr. has been appointed to Asbury Town Neck United Methodist Church, 429 Asbury Drive in Severna Park. For the past eight years he has served as pastor of Goshen United Methodist Church in Gaithersburg. Worship services are at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Sundays. All are welcome.
